Air Quality Monitoring
Eastleigh Borough Council carries out monitoring of air
pollution as part of its local air quality management duties
under the Environment Act 1995.
At the present time there are three permanent air quality
monitoring sites in central Eastleigh. Oxides of nitrogen are
monitored at all three sites and particulate matter at one
site.
We also have a network of 38 NOx tubes measuring oxides of
nitrogen.
All of this data is verified and then used to assess whether
there are areas that are experiencing high levels of air
pollution.
All Local Authorities are required to assess pollution levels
against national objectives. If it is unlikely that an
objective will be achieved an 'Air Quality Management Area' must be
declared and an 'Action Plan' drawn up.
