Dog Breeding

The Breeding and Sale of Dogs (Welfare) Act 1999 applies to both pedigree and crossbreed dogs.

Breeding from your dog(s)
You may need a licence to breed your dog(s).  If you intend to breed you should consult your veterinary surgeon, the relevant breed club if your dog is a pedigree and the Animal Welfare Officers.

Selling puppies bred by someone else
It is an offence to trade in animals without a Pet Shop Licence.
