Animal Boarding

There are currently a number of boarding catteries and home boarders for dogs within the Borough of Eastleigh.

Setting up a Boarding Establishment

A licence must be obtained to board cats or dogs.  Boarding without a licence is a criminal offence.

In the first instance you must contact the Planning Unit, on planning@eastleigh.gov.uk as planning permission is needed to build or change the use of any establishment.  You should also contact the Animal Welfare Officers to obtain a copy of the licence conditions and application form.

These must be met before a licence will be granted.  Your insurance company will be able to advise you on the type of insurance you may need to run a boarding establishment and our own Health & Safety Officer should also be contacted.

Home Boarding for dogs

Anybody within Eastleigh Borough who is boarding dogs in their own home must also have a licence.

If you wish to board your dog or cat, you should make sure that you ask to see the Licence.  A list of all licenced establishments can be obtained from the Animal Welfare Officers.

Leaving animals at home while on holiday

While this may be acceptable for cats, it is not recommended for dogs.  Dogs which are left alone for long periods of time become distressed and may cause nuisance.  If cats are left you must ensure that the carer is totally reliable and will check on the animal on a frequent and regular basis.
