Eastleigh Borough residents ‘top the league’ on recycling in
Hampshire
Residents throughout the Borough of Eastleigh are leading the
way on recycling in Hampshire according to official government
figures.
Figures from the Department of Environment, Fisheries and Rural
Affairs (Defra) for April 2010 to March 2011 showed that Eastleigh
was top of the league for recycling in Hampshire with a percentage
for waste recycled, composted or reused of 43% which was 5% more
than any other Hampshire Council.
Cabinet Lead for the Environment, Councillor Louise Bloom “This
is great news for the borough. We have a great working partnership
with our residents and we couldn’t have achieved this without the
excellent support and efforts of our residents who really are great
recyclers. We have provided a range of opportunities for kerbside
recycling including a recycling bin for paper/card/plastic bottles,
cans, tins and aerosols,, glass, batteries and garden waste – and
we are also the only Council in Hampshire to provide a food waste
service.”
She added “However there is no room for complacency and we will
continue to develop and improve our recycling and increase our
recycling rate with the help of our residents.”
