Council joins local people against ‘quarry’ proposals

Eastleigh Borough Council together with Hamble-le-Rice, Bursledon and Hound Parish Councils, local businesses and residents including STAGE (STeering group Against Gravel Extraction) are all opposed to Hampshire County Council’s proposal to quarry gravel from Hamble Airfield.

Some of the key issues that the proposals will raise in the area include traffic congestion and pollution on Hamble Lane, noise, pollution for nearby homes and two schools, together with damage to the local ecology and economy of the area.

Proposals to designate the site for gravel extraction are being put forward by Hampshire County Council as part of their county-wide Waste and Minerals Plan. Hampshire County Council is deciding on the proposals at a special public Council meeting at 10am on Thursday 13th October in Winchester.

Council Leader Keith House said “Eastleigh Borough Council has consistently opposed these proposals which will blight one of the prettiest, but already most congested parts of the borough. County Councillors need to see the strength of feeling from Hamble and the local area so I’d encourage everyone to go to the meeting.”
