Funding for Sport

As well as a Small Grants Scheme the Sport and Active Lifestyles team aim to offer guidance for all clubs, coaches, volunteers, sports leaders and others who are seeking funding for sport. Please use the links below as a starting point.

Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme (HTAS)

This fund is made available by Hampshire County Council to ensure that young people are not denied the opportunity to participate at a representative level in sport through financial assistance.  This grant is only accessible by residents of the administrative county of Hampshire and the young person is of statutory school age. www3.hants.gov.uk/talentedathletes

 

Hampshire F.A.C.S (Free Access for County Sports People)

The aim of this scheme is to provide county level sports people with free access to a number of the county's sport and leisure facilities at designated off peak times for personal training and development.  To be considered for this grant applicants must be:

  • Currently a member of a county team/ squad
  • Aged between 16 - 18
  • Living within the boundaries of Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council or Southampton City Council.

The aim of this scheme is to provide national level sports people with free access to a number of the county's sport and leisure facilities at designated off peak times for personal training and development.  To be considered for this grant applicants must be:

  • Currently a member of a national team or squad
  • Currently listed in the top ten of any national age group ranking
  • Living within the boundaries of Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council or Southampton City Council.

Coaching, Officials and Volunteer Bursary

The aim of the grant is to strategically increase the number of Hampshire & IOW residents qualified to coach, officiate or volunteer in sport and to raise existing standards. Encourage individuals to take the first step into coaching, officiating or volunteering by completing the appropriate governing body’s award scheme. Assist the development of existing qualified coaches, officials and volunteers through additional, higher level, awards and courses.

Awards For All provides lottery funding to small local groups.  It aims to involve people in local community activities. The grant is ongoing so there are no deadlines.  For more information visit:  www.awardsforall.org.uk

The Football Foundation is aimed at helping football at grass roots, or using football as a tool within local communities.  Funding is also available for community and education initiatives that use football to improve social inclusion and raise education standards.  For more information visit: www.footballfoundation.org.uk

Sportsmatch If you have raised commercial sponsorship, then you could double your funding through Sportsmatch.  The scheme will provide matching awards of between £500 and £50,000 for projects that aim to increase participation at grass roots level.  For more information visit:  www.sportsmatch.co.uk

OCS Young Sports Person Awards give outstanding young athletes recognition to help them with the strain of training, travelling and competing, taking the pressure off by offering help at the start of their journey when, more often than not, parents and guardians are the solitary sponsor.  At this stage, independent recognition and financial assistance makes a huge difference. www.ocsyoungsportsperson.co.uk/

The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme, or TASS as it is better known, is a Government funded programme that represents a unique partnership between sport and higher and further education. TASS is at the forefront of the development of Britain's sporting stars of the future. www.tass.gov.uk/

UnLtd Sport Relief Awards are funded by Comic Relief . The UK wide funding programme is for 11-21 year olds, who are prepared to go the extra mile and use their passion for sport and arts to bring respect and understanding to their communities by setting up their own projects. The Big Lottery Fund  is responsible for giving out half the money for good causes raised by the National Lottery, giving a budget of about £630 million a year. Funding covers health, education, environment and charitable purposes. They are committed to bringing real improvements to communities. www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/

Biffa Awards provide grant aid for community organisations in areas within a limited radius of a landfill site. They will accept grant applications for projects that provide or improve community spaces, cultural facilities and places for outdoor recreation. Funding amounts between £250 and £50,000. www.biffaward.org/

Peter Harrison Foundation 'Opportunities through Sport' programme supports activities or projects which provide opportunities for disabled people or those who are disadvantaged to fulfil their potential and for other personal and life skills to be developed. Grants of £500-£5,000 can be applied for. www.peterharrisonfoundation.org/

The Young People's Fund  is part of the Big Lottery Fund and will concentrate on the outcomes from 'Every Child Matters' and on providing facilities and activities for young people out of school hours and in the holidays.
