Conservation at Lakeside Country Park
|
Conservation Grazing Project
Eastleigh Countryside Service plans to graze
this part of Lakeside Country Park to maintain and enhance the
biodiversity of these grassland habitats.
The first stage of this exciting project is
the erection of stock fencing.
This work is due to start week
commencing 10/8/09
Once completed, a water supply will be
installed. As the grazing is likely to be seasonal (i.e. not all
year round) and we will have to source an appropriate breed of
cattle, animals are unlikely to be on site until next spring
(2010).
With the exception of the area marked
‘Wildlife Sanctuary’, the public will continue to enjoy
unrestricted access to the remaining areas; there are no plans to
introduce new restrictions - dog walkers will be required to keep
their dogs under close control within the grazing unit, as they
must throughout this and any other public open space.
There will be routes (including the ‘paw trail’) that avoid the
grazing unit completely for those who prefer not to enter an area
with livestock.
