Habitat & Conservation at Hocombe Mead

Hocombe Mead

Habitat
This wooded stream valley between Ashdown Road and Hocombe Road is a site of varied habitat, including mixed woodland and ancient meadows, with small areas of valley bog and remnants of heathland. The woodland is at least 400 years old, figuring on old maps as far back as 1588, when it was known as Eagles Copse. The site holds a particularly wide range of butterflies.

Conservation
A management plan for Hocombe Mead was written by one of the Council’s Volunteer Rangers in 2005. The Management Plan covers the period 2005-10.

Species
Butterfly transects and other surveys are carried out at the site.

This site is looked after by Dave Payne.
