Suggested Kit List

equipment

Children of different ages take part in different activities and therefore require differing levels of equipment.

The lists below take this into account and give a rough guide to the basics needed.

  • Spare waterproofs (for those children who get caught out!)
  • Wellies (try charity shops or ask around)
  • Ropes and string (for tying shelter supports, learning knots and general craft use)
  • Tarpaulins (lightweight but strong and waterproof for shelter building)
  • Tarpaulins (cheaper kind for sitting on)
  • Bug pots/pond dipping equipment
  • Identification sheets
  • Tent pegs and mallet
  • Plastic drinking mugs (brightly coloured helps them to be found again)
  • First Aid Kit (including fire blanket and tic removers)
  • Fire equipment (2 orange buckets for water, fire blanket, matches/strikers in a tin, cotton wool, petroleum jelly and paper/tinder)
  • Water carrier (for drinking water)
  • Tools (basic includes bowsaws, potato peelers, knives (for older children), saw horse, junior hacksaws and secateurs/loppers)
  • Sawn poles and logs (for shelter building and craft activities)

Other equipment that may be of use depending on the age of children:

  • Kelly Kettles
  • Billy Cans
  • Chopping boards and cooking equipment
  • Axes
  • Power drill

Storage for equipment:

  • Plastic boxes for craft equipment and minibeast hunting
  • Ammunition boxes for knives and sharp equipment (you will always hear if a child tries to sneak in to get a knife as you cannot get into one quietly!)
  • Metal tin to keep matches dry
  • Tool bag for bowsaws and other equipment
