'Gallery this way' project
Art lovers and budding art critics
ahoy!
There's a new arts initiative now
operating in Eastleigh town centre, known as 'Gallery this
way'. Utilising empty shop windows to offer a platform for
emerging artists to exhibit their artwork. Over the next few
months, the shop units will play host to a rolling programme of
exhibitions and associated events showcasing leading contemporary
artists' work.
By showcasing local artists we aim to make use of discarded
space and art can be appreciated by an entirely new public. The
empty properties themselves are given a new lease of life which in
turn provides a positive impression to local communities and
businesses of the town, at the same time give the appearance of
productivity. There is nothing more dreary than walking through a
town with a number of empty shop units.

'Gallery this way' team
'Gallery this way' is a collaborative project led by Eastleigh
Borough Council, Grey Ladyes Art Foundation and a
selection of talented local artists.

"This is an amazing opportunity as an artist to showcase a variety
of work in a very public space, engage with the local community and
raise awareness of Eastleigh town centre, I am thrilled and
delighted to be part of this scheme and excited by the diversity of
the artists which will be participating and the future
possibilities of this project." Jackie King
