Conservation Areas
What is a Conservation Area?
Conservation Areas are places of environmental quality and
interest. This could be a mix of uses, historic layout of
property boundaries and thoroughfare, characteristic materials,
appropriate scaling and detailing of contemporary buildings, the
extent to which traffic intrudes and limits the pedestrian use of
spaces between buildings, vistas, the quality of
shopfronts, street furniture, and hard and soft surfaces - the
quality of townscape in its broadest sense.
Additional planning restrictions apply within these areas to
ensure that special regard is paid to preserving and enhancing
their character or appearance.

The first round of consultation is complete and comments received
were reviewed and reported to the Bursledon Hamble and Hound Area
Committee on the 23rd June.
Link to Reports and Minutes
On the 23rd June the Committee heard that a number of people had
still not heard about the proposals contained within the
Conservation Area Appraisals in time to respond to the
consultation, and therefore asked that a further round of
consultation be carried out to allow this to happen. For the
benefit of those who may not have been contacted earlier , comments
are invited on both conservation area appraisals, to be received by
the 10th October 2011 to enable an
update to be reported back the to the meeting of
Bursledon, Hound and Hamble Local Area Committee meeting on the
17th November.
