What is a Conservation Area?

Conservation Areas are places of environmental quality and interest.  This could be a mix of uses, historic layout of property boundaries and thoroughfare, characteristic materials, appropriate scaling and detailing of contemporary buildings, the extent to which traffic intrudes and limits the pedestrian use of spaces between buildings, vistas, the quality of shopfronts, street furniture, and hard and soft surfaces - the quality of townscape in its broadest sense.

Additional planning restrictions apply within these areas to ensure that special regard is paid to preserving and enhancing their character or appearance.

Bursledon Windmill Conservation Area Appraisal SPD

Bursledon Windmill Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Proposals SPD was formally adopted by the Borough Council in December 2011 and all those people directly affected by the proposals have been contacted by the Council.  A final version of the appraisal has been produced and can be viewed on line below.

A hard copy of the document can be viewed during normal opening hours at the Civic Offices in Leigh Road, the Town Centre Office, Eastleigh Library and other libraries in the borough . Copies may also be purchased from the Planning Policy and design Team at the Civic Offices.

Bishopstoke Conservation Area Appraisal SPD 

Bishopstoke Conservation Area Appraisal was formally adopted by the Borough Council in April 2011 and all those people directly affected by the proposals have been contacted by the Council.  A final version of the appraisal has been produced and can be viewed on line below.

A hard copy of the document can be viewed at the Civic Offices in Leigh Road, the Town Centre Office and Eastleigh Library during normal opening hours and copies may also be purchased from the Planning Policy and Design Team at the Civic Offices.

Adoption Statement

9th February 2012

Old Bursledon Conservation Appraisal and Management Proposals SPD was formally adopted by the Borough Council on February 9th 2012 and all those people directly affected by the proposals are being contacted by the Council. 

Any person with sufficient interest in the decision to adopt this SPD may apply to the High Court for permission to apply for judicial review of the decision. Any such application must be made promptly and in any event not later than 3 months after the date on which the SPD was adopted.Old Bursledon Conservation Area
