Cemetery Maintenance - Green Flag Award
Maintenance
The authority is responsible for the maintenance and operation
of the four cemeteries within the Borough. All are accessible
at all times for walking visitors but only open for vehicular
access during normal opening hours.
The cemeteries are managed and maintained under the Local
Authorities' Cemeteries Order 1977 and the Local Authorities'
Cemeteries (Amendments) Order 1986. They all provide water
tap facilities and litter bins. Eastleigh cemetery provides public
conveniences for your use.
The cemetery office staff are based at the Hedge End Depot,
Botley Road, Hedge End and undertake the administration and
management of the cemeteries.
We aim to provide the highest maintenance standards throughout
our four cemeteries and ensure that a caring, supportive and
sensitive service is provided to those who are experiencing the
pain of bereavement.
The green flag award
The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and
green spaces in England and Wales. The award scheme began in
1996 as a means of recognising and rewarding the best green spaces
in the country. It was also seen as a way of encouraging
others to achieve the same high environmental standards, creating a
benchmark of excellence in recreational green areas.

Awards are given on an annual basis and winners must apply each
year to renew their Green Flag status. Eastleigh cemetery has been
awarded the Green Flag for the past 4 years. It is one of only two
cemeteries in the south east to achieve this prestigious award.
