HomeChoice
Eastleigh Borough Council does not own any
housing accommodation, but maintains and manages the Eastleigh
Homechoice Housing Register on behalf of its partner housing
associations, who do own properties in the Borough.
Any housing association vacancies in the Borough are advertised and
let through the Eastleigh Homechoice Housing Register.
Eastleigh is an area of very high housing demand,
so applicants can wait for some years before they are
successful in obtaining a property via Homechoice. Waiting time is
influenced by the number of properties becoming available; the
location of those properties in comparison to the areas of the
Borough in which an applicant wishes to live; the number of
requests received for each property; and the priority on Homechoice
of those applying for each property. Applicants with little or no
priority will not be housed. People without a local connection
to the Borough are unlikely to be housed via Homechoice.
More information about Homechoice can be found here:
Mutual Exchanges
In some cases, tenants of local authorities and housing
associations have a right to 'mutually exchange'. This means
that they can 'swap' their property with someone else's. This
scheme provides applicants with opportunities to move to other
areas for employment reasons etc.
If you are interested in a mutual exchange you will need to
contact your landlord who will give you further advice.
Results
Results of previously advertised properties are published so that
applicants can gauge how long they will have to wait for the
property of their choice.
Details are published on how many applicants applied for a property
and banding details of the successful applicant.
Review of Eastleigh Homechoice Register
Decision
If you are unhappy with the priority band your Homechoice
application has been placed in, you can appeal.
The leaflet Requesting a review of Eastleigh
Homechoice Register decisions ( pdf )' explains how to do
this.
Sheltered Accommodation
If you wish to apply for sheltered accommodation in the Borough you
only need to complete one application form for Eastleigh
Homechoice. You are able to apply to join the Register
through this website or,
alternatively, contact us and we will arrange to send you a form in
the post.
Not all the Housing Associations working in the Borough providing
sheltered accommodation are part of the combined register and
therefore you will need to contact them direct.
Further information regarding all the schemes in the Borough can be
found in the
Transfers
If you are a tenant of one of the housing associations in the
Eastleigh Borough area you may be eligible for a transfer to a
larger or smaller property in the Borough. If you want
further information on your eligibility for a transfer you should
contact your landlord.
