Former Golf Course Open For Public Access
Over 28 hectares (71 acres) of open space will
open for informal public access at Eastleigh’s Fleming Park this
Saturday 2 May.
This large area of parkland has been opened up
following closure of Fleming Park’s 18 hole golf course at the end
of March. Since closure of the golf course the land has
remained fenced off to allow safety improvements to bridges over
Monks Brook and for new pathways to be cut through some of the
grass areas as well as opening up new access points.
Consultation with the local community about
the future of Fleming Park was undertaken last year. The
majority of those responding to a questionnaire supported use of
the park for less formal activities. These included cycling,
walking, picnic areas, children’s play as well as a venue for
events/activities.
Now the Council is starting to draft new plans
for the extended park and is inviting people’s views and ideas on
how use of the area should be prioritised. Information and a
comment form can be completed by residents at:
Events and activities are already being
arranged for the new area.
The improved Fleming Park play area will be
opened by the Mayor of Eastleigh on 28 May.
