Beacon Council 2008 - Tackling Climate Change
In March 2008
Eastleigh Borough Council was named a
Beacon Council under
the theme "Tackling Climate Change"

Throughout 2008 and up to June 2009 we will be working with
other Beacon Councils in this theme to provide a programme of
events with the aim of disseminating, discussing and improving
the Local Authority Best Practice in both mitigating - reducing
carbon dioxide emissions - and adapting to the unavoidable
impacts of climate change.
This page will offer links to documents that have demonstrated
what Eastleigh has done to achieve the Beacon award, and will list
events that we will be hosting, or contributing to.
- The Tackling Climate Change
Theme Guide
pdf
describes the
activities undertaken by all six Beacon Councils to reduce
emissions of carbon dioxide, and to help their
communities prepare and adapt to climate change. Other Beacon
Councils under the theme of "Tackling Climate Change" are:
City of London, the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham,
Woking Borough Council, Middlesbrough Council and Worcestershire
County Council. The contacts for each Council can be found in
this Guide.
- The Beacon Scheme Guide.pdf
gives more information about what being a beacon council is all
about and how local authorities and other statutory organisations
can work with Beacons, such as requesting mentoring, peer support,
presentations and staff training.
- The Beacon
Events Programme can give you information about Beacon events
for all themes and Beacon Authorities over the current Beacon
round.
- Case
Studies for some of the projects for which we were named a
Beacon Council.
- Our Climate Change page has more information
about climate change, and Eastleigh Borough Council's strategy
approach to manging this challenge. You can also
download a copy of our Climate Change
Strategy for 2008-2012. The
Strategy will be implemented as detailed in our Action
Plan 2008/09.
