Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SLAA)
The Strategic Land Availability Assessment (SLAA) will form an
important part of the evidence base for the Council’s Local
Development Framework. The SLAA identifies the theoretical
potential for land to be developed to meet the growth requirements
of the Borough through to 2026. This growth includes the provision
of over 7000 homes between 2006 and 2026 as well as economic,
social and other associated growth. A robust evidence base to
inform future decisions on how to provide and manage this
growth will ensure that future policy documents are found ‘sound’
by government inspectors.
Eastleigh Borough Council’s SLAA will include
the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) required
by government policy in Planning Policy Statement 3 (PPS3) but will
also look at the potential for land to be used for other uses.
We consulted on the methodology document
earlier this year.

response.
A revised methodology document was approved by the Council on 10
July 2008.

SLAA Submission of Potential Sites
A key part of the assessment is to look at
sites to see if, in theory, they could be developed. The formal
period for submission of sites has now passed but the Council will
still consider additional sites where appropriate. You can submit
sites for consideration by printing off and sending in this
pro-forma. Only those sites which
conform to the criteria set out in the methodology document will be
considered within the Assessment. Please note that the SLAA will
not be making judgements on whether particular sites should come
forward for development. These decisions will be made within future
policy documents and when determining individual planning
applications.
