The Planning Portal is intended to be the first
point of call for anyone who wants to find out about the planning
system in England and Wales. It is aimed at everyone, from central
government and local authorities to planning professionals and the
lay person.
The Planning Portal is a vast source of information for all
aspects of the planning process. Here are some links to sections
which you may find useful.
The Guide section provides a brief
introduction to the planning system and some explanation of why
planning controls are important and necessary.
It includes general guidance about the kinds of work for which
you need to apply for planning permission and those for which you
do not. It is intended for both householders and business
people.
The Study section is designed to help people
to teach or learn about town and country planning. It is a useful
resource for teachers and students of Planning and those
considering or pursuing a career in town and country planning.
The Research section of the Portal is aimed at
planning professionals and those with an in depth interest in
planning policy and reform. You can obtain information on many
issues including the Government's Planning Reform Programme,
Parliamentary answers and statements on planning matters and you
can view copies of Planning Policy.
The Appeals section provides information and
guidance on the Appeals process. If you seek permission to carry
out works to your property and your application is not decided
within a set period or you get a decision from your local council
that you disagree with, you have the right to appeal
FAQ The Planning Portal operates a
frequently asked questions (FAQ) database so that users can
find solutions to common questions and submit new queries to
the support team for an answer.
On line appeal Service
To potential appellants:
The Planning Inspectorate has introduced an online appeals
service which you can use to make your appeal online. You can find
the service through the Appeals area of the Planning Portal – see
www.planningportal.gov.uk/pcs
The Inspectorate will publish details of your appeal on the
internet (on the Appeals area of the Planning Portal). This may
include a copy of the original planning application form and
relevant supporting documents supplied to the local authority by
you or your agent, together with the completed appeal form and
information you submit to the Planning Inspectorate. Please ensure
that you only provide information, including personal information
belonging to you that you are happy will be made available to
others in this way. If you supply personal information belonging to
a third party please ensure you have their permission to do so.
