Environmental Health's Mission Statement - To protect and
improve the health, safety and welfare of the community we
serve
Environmental Health Portfolio
Objective
To secure the maintenance of healthy standards of living,
within the community. Incorporating the Council's Community Plan
and the public health agenda of Eastleigh North and Test Valley
South Primary Care Trust.
Scope of Activity
- Food Safety -
Ensuring compliance with the Food Safety Act in food
premises. Providing advice and education on good food handling
systems. Investigation of food complaints and submission of
samples for bacteriological examination.
- Food Alerts - See
recent food alerts issued
by the Food Standards Agency
- Communicable
Disease - Prevention and control of the spread of
communicable disease including food poisoning.
- Pollution
Control - Minimising the adverse effects of noise,
air, water pollution, marine oil pollution, landfill gas,
contaminated land and radiation by monitoring, educating and
enforcing.
- Health and Safety at Work
- Improvement of physical working conditions, including safety
measures, in shops, offices, catering establishments, warehouses
and some industrial premises.
- Health
Promotion - Talks and demonstrations to business and
voluntary organisations, including collaboration with industrial
and commercial organisations.
- Water Quality
- Promotion of good standards of recreational water
quality.
- Filthy
and Verminous Premises - Co-ordinating the
cleaning up of filthy and verminous premises brought to the
Council's attention.
- Licensing - Issue
licences or registrations for animal welfare, pleasure
boats, skin piercers, hairdressers, caravan sites etc.

Codes of Practice and our Enforcement Policies below:
