Kitchen Waste trial expanded to Chandler's
Ford!

After the success of the recent trials in
Hedge End Bishopstoke, Eastleigh Borough Council has now expanded
the Food Waste collection to an additional 8000 properties in
Chandler’s Ford.
Residents have received new food waste bin, a
kitchen caddy, 10 biodegradable caddy liners and a leaflet
explaining what food waste can be collected for processing.
The service was launched at an event held in
Chandler’s Ford Community Centre where residents could see cookery
demonstrations, producers showing locally available food and also
to get advice on the food waste collection along with other
recycling services.
Food waste can make up over 30% of an average
rubbish bin and previously this has had to be buried in landfill or
incinerated. With the trial being available to 10,000 Borough
residents, 1000’s of tonnes of food waste will now be recycled and
improve Eastleigh Borough Council’s already excellent reputation
with recycling.

Eastleigh working with MDL Marinas and others to
introduce Recycling to the River Hamble

The Recycling Team have taken to the water to
introduce recycling collections to the River Hamble. Working with
MDL Marinas, the Harbour Authority and other boatyards we have
provided boat owners and visitors at Port Hamble Marina the chance
to recycle their paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and cans.
Previously, all of the waste produced on the
various boats and yachts would not be recycled, but now all of
that material will be taken to make something new.
The trial at Port Hamble has so far been
a great success and we now want to bring this service to every
boatyard over the next few months. Keep checking the Recycling News
page for more updates!
