The South Hampshire Strategic Employment Zone
Issues and Options
Regional Significance
The South Hampshire Strategic
Employment Zone (
SHSEZ
) has been
identified for a major employment creating scheme.
The site could be a driver for South
Hampshire’s economy as well as meeting local needs.
This is why the site has been chosen by PUSH (The Partnersip for
Urban South Hampshire) as a key site in its growth led strategy for
the region.

Local Plan Policies
The Council has policies at the moment
that promote:
- Provision of Chickenhall Lane Link
Road
- Redevelopment of Barton Park, the former Alstom works and
remainder of the identified area for mainly employment purposes
(totals over 100 hectares)
Things Unlikely to Change
- Restrictions within the airport
public safety zone
- Existing housing will remain
- Chickenhall sewage works will
remain
- The route of Chickenhall Lane Link
Road is unlikely to change
- An area will be reserved for a new rail link
Possibilities for Development
To ensure an emphasis on economic
regeneration the Council proposes that most of the land will be
allocated for employment.
The main area for regeneration is over
100 hectares in size.
