About us...

 

We work in partnership with Local Health agencies and DC Leisure to promote exercise referral scheme based at Fleming Park Leisure Centre. The scheme is capable of screening at least 40 new patients every month.

 

As part of the scheme, patients are offered a reduced rate on activities including swimming, aquatherapy, gym sessions and cardiac rehabilitation. HealthWalks are also part of the scheme and take place around the Eastleigh Borough are are FREE!

 

Some of the sessions also take place at Hamble and Wildern School.

  • What is it?

16 week physical activity prescription scheme which is designed to provide opportunities for people to improve their health by becoming more active, more often.

 

  • Who is it for? 

Anyone over 16 who may be at risk from conditions that would benefit from an increase in physical activity. They include:

                               - Being overweight/obese

                               - Smoking

                               - Having high blood pressure

                               - Suffering from stress

 

  • How does it work?

Following an assessment from their GP, patients who are given a physical activity are given a FREE consultation with a member of the HealthWorks team, after this consultation a personal exercise programme is designed according to the individual. Support is provided on the scheme by regular reassessments and encouragement.

Through funding from the Primary Care Trust (PCT), Healthwalks are organised walks led by a qualified walk leader. We run 8 walks, every day, every week of the year come rain or shine.

 

Walking is a great calorie burner. It is low intensity, low impact, easily sustainable and easy to do. All you need is a good pair of shoes, suitable clothing for the weather and enthusiasm!!.

 

We warmly welcome you to come along and join in with this great form of exercise, which is healthy, fun and free!!!

 

Each walk lasts approximately 1 hour with a distance of 3 miles covered. Some walks may have fast and slow walking groups.

 

 

MONDAY

 

2.00pm – Haskins Garden Centre, WEST END

7.00pm – Stoke Park Road Woods (car park),BISHOPSTOKE

 

TUESDAY

 

**9.30am – British Legion (meet + park around the back), Station Road, NETLEY ABBEY

**2.00pm – Station Lane, CHANDLERS FORD

 

WEDNESDAY

 

**10.00am – Fleming Park Leisure Centre, EASTLEIGH

 

 

THURSDAY

 

**9.30am – Drummond Centre,Drummond Road,HEDGE END                    

**10.00am – Station Lane, CHANDLERS FORD

 

FRIDAY

 

 9.30am – Village Hall, Shorts Road , FAIR OAK

10.00am-Hamble Community Sports Centre, HAMBLE

 

SATURDAY

 

10.30am-Cleveland Bay PH,Valley Park, CHANDLERS FORD

 

 

** These walks have a separate slower walk

 

Regular brisk walking can help prevent Heart disease, Stroke, Osteoporosis, High blood pressure, Obesity and Diabetes.

 

All walk leaders are volunteers who help us help the local community improve their health, fitness & well being.
