Sustainable Homes
Most of the housing stock
within the Borough is privately owned. Comprehensive
information about Housing in the local area can be found here - Housing
A sustainable house will be
affordable to the person or persons living there, be built of a
design and construction that makes as little environmental impact
as possible in its construction, lifetime use and eventual
demolition. Unfortunately the vast majority of homes could be
greatly improved regarding energy and water conservation in
particular.
Doing Your Bit
- If you are thinking of buying a
home, ask about any energy efficiency and water saving
measures
- If you own a home, think about
installing water saving measures and a water meter
- Energy saving measures help the
environment and can save you money.
What the Council is Doing
Through Planning Policy documents
we are trying to encourage more sustainably designed homes and
commercial buildings to be built locally.
Our Building Control Team monitor new buildings
and some large modifications to ensure that they comply with the
latest Building Regulations. The Housing Services Team offer a range
of services but in particular to those in need of rented or
affordable housing. They also give advice about Home Energy
Conservation and Fuel Poverty issues.
