UK Online Centre at Pilands Wood Community Centre
The aim of the UK Online Centres is to give adults who
currently have limited or no access to Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) the opportunity to access and
learn ICT skills to help them make the most of themselves in all
aspects of their lives.

Drop-in sessions are available Monday -
Thursday from 10am to 12.30pm

What is on offer?
The UK Online network offers people who are
new to computers and the internet:

First Time Online
is a fun and easy to use introduction to computers and the
internet

makes learning how to use the internet and e-mail simple

A Taste of
English an online taster to use with learners whose
first language isn't English
Hardware and Software
The computer suite at Pilands Wood has 11
PC’s, with the facility to have a 12th. A4 and A3 colours printers,
a flat bed scanner and negative scanner.
There is also provision to add users own
laptops to the network.
The network is connected to the internet, via
broadband.
The software installed on all PC’s is:
MS Office 2003 Professional, (Word, Excel,
Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and FrontPage)
Adobe PhotoShop CS
Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8
Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004
Disability equipment
A range of equipment is available to help
those who may find it difficult to use standard computing
equipment. This includes:

Workstation
A computer desk which can be raised or lowered
to the right height ideal for reducing back pain and for wheel
chair users

With high contrast letters which are ideal for
partially sighted, visually impaired users or those with fine motor
skill difficulties

The large keytops and large high contrast
letting makes keys easier to see and hit

support for fine motor skill difficulties

A talking word processor that helps develop

selecting letters, words or phases in the Clicker Grid

information on screen. Ideal for partially sighted or visually
impaired users.

Word prediction software to help people with

Renting Opportunities
These facilities are available to rent for your own training
needs.
There is provision to extend into a second room to increase the
size of the facilities, where users can add their own laptops
to the network.
Whiteboard, overhead projector and TV with video recorder are
available for use.

Eastleigh Credit Union
Eastleigh Credit Union is a non-profit making, volunteer run,
savings and loans co-operative which can provide low cost loans to
its members. Quite simply, it is a locally based,
non-discriminatory savings and loans scheme run by its members for
its members.
Anyone who works or lives in the borough of Eastleigh can
join. There is a 50p joining fee for adults (this is waived for
juniors) and members can save from as little as 25p per week.

Southampton Advice and Representation Centre (
SARC
) offers
a free, independent and confidential advice service
specialising in:
- Social Security Law e.g. Income support,
Jobseekers Allowance, Pension Credit, tax credits, Housing Benefit,
disability and incapacity benefits, Social Fund
- Employment Law e.g. unfair dismissal, unpaid
wages, sex and race discrimination, national minimum wage
They provide free advice and assistance, from simple form
filling through to representation at Social Security and Employment
Tribunals.
They can help anyone who lives within Eastleigh Borough and
Southampton City.
There are a number of advice 'clinics' around the
SARC
area,
with an Eastleigh clinic once a week. Call

Job Centre Plus and the European Social Fund have funded three
projects to help people return to work after claiming incapacity or
