and Recreation Unit which also incorporates Countryside Services
and the Tree Team.

Planning for Sport and
Recreation
We provide information and advice to
the Council and external partners in the provision of sport and
recreation facilities and services within the Borough.
We keep up to date records of
existing facilities, their condition and their use, and try to
remain aware of local needs and aspirations. We aim to
respond to these needs by partnership working and creative
thinking.
We maintain regular contact with
Sport
England and other agencies
influencing the provision of local authority sport and recreation
and try to ensure that our area of work contributes towards the
Council's cross cutting agenda for quality of life
improvements.
Sports Development
- We support sport within primary and secondary schools and
encourage schools to develop extra curricular opportunities and
develop school-club links
- Development of sport and PE in schools and
colleges through Specialist Sports Colleges at Toynbee and Hamble
Schools
- We work in partnership with Team Elite to
provide and promote a programme of high quality holiday sports
activities which are popular, accessible and good value for
money
- We deliver national sports development
initiatives such as Active
Sports and Hampshire Youth Games
- We issue grant aid to individuals and groups within the Borough
to extend and improve positive sporting experiences
- Enable target groups (women, disabled (EDLAG),
ethnic, low income and socially excluded) to participate in sport
and recreation

Community School Sport
Provision
Maintain regular liaison with
community schools and assist in the development of sports
facilities and services for local residents, outside curriculum
time, ensuring that the local community receives high quality sport
and recreation services, help schools to attract funding for
improvements from either the lottery sports or other grant
mechanisms.
Schools which currently have
community sport provision include H
amble, Wildern, Wyvern and Crestwood.
Provide information for residents wanting to take part in
sport and recreation
Provide support and information
for sports clubs and local public sector agencies to attract
external funding and encourage coaches to become appropriately
qualified
Monitor the management of Fleming Park (This includes the
leisure centre, outdoor playing fields, golf course, play area and
paddling pool) leisure facilities to ensure that
DC Leisure are
operating a high quality, service which is safe, enjoyable and
responsive to the needs of all the community.
Co-ordinate the Council's responsibility for building
maintenance in conjunction with Property Services to ensure that
the fabric of the building and fixed plant equipment is
serviceable.
Ensure that the financial arrangements between the Council and
DC Leisure are upheld in accordance with the contract.
Deliver improvements to the facilities in partnership with DC
Leisure, so as to implement the Council's investment programme as a
result of the new 20-year contract.
Implement the facility
improvements specified within the recently written Development Plan
for Fleming Park.
